The Film 3 Weeks Later – From a Decade-Long Creative Process to Festival Awards and the Domestic Premiere

After ten years of work on the film 3 Weeks Later (3 nedelje posle) – starting from the initial encounter between actor and producer Branislav Trifunović and Vladimir Arsenijević, when, deeply shaken by the suicide of Aleksa Janković, they set out with the intention of creating a kind of dark musical about peer violence, through a screenplay version featuring elements of new horror, all the way to the hard-realistic depiction of moral horror shaped in collaboration with director Miroslav Terzić – this project has reached its complete form and an intense festival life.

The film follows a group of high school students who set off on a previously planned school trip three weeks after the tragic loss of their classmate. During the journey, which is supposed to be an escape from everyday reality, questions of responsibility, silence, peer violence, and collective guilt gradually surface. Inspired by real events, 3 Weeks Later delivers a powerful and emotional story about a society trying to understand the consequences of a tragedy it failed to prevent. Although it would be better for all of us if the film spoke of a phenomenon left in the past, the issue of peer violence remains painfully relevant.

Beginning its journey with a world premiere at the 60th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (where it won the prestigious Europa Cinemas Label award for Best European Film) and continuing its screenings in Pula, Sarajevo, and Herceg Novi, the film made an exceptionally strong impression on audiences and professional juries alike, winning a series of major accolades:

  • Europa Cinemas Label for Best European Film (Karlovy Vary IFF)
  • Golden Arena for Best Screenplay – Vladimir Arsenijević (Pula Film Festival)
  • Golden Arena for Best Directing – Miroslav Terzić (Pula Film Festival)
  • Golden Arena for Best Editing – Marko Ferković (Pula Film Festival)
  • Golden Mimosa for Best Screenplay – Vladimir Arsenijević, shared equally with Miha Hočevar and Srđan Koljević (Herceg Novi Film Festival)
  • HBO Award – CineLink Industry Days (Sarajevo Film Festival)

The main roles are played by young actors Jovan Ginić, Anđela Alavirević, Klara Hrvanović, and Andrija Marković, with supporting performances by Tihana Lazović Trifunović and Branislav Trifunović. The screenplay is written by Vladimir Arsenijević, with Miroslav Terzić and Bojan Vuletić as co-writers. The film was produced by This and That Productions from Belgrade, supported by the Film Center Serbia and numerous European funds, while the official poster was designed by Braća Burazeri.
